Programme Note

In 2000, the trumpet player John Wallace asked several composers to write pieces to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the International Trumpet Guild of New York. The brief was to write pieces of a predominantly lyrical character and my contribution, Lamento ritornando, is, as the title implies, a lament which keeps returning to the mournful chromatic idea that opens it.
